Why? Number 1; my first name is Miriam...RARELY would you find a Black female in the hood with that name...Number 2; my last name is Remo...not Johnson, Jones, Williams, Anderson, Brown or Jackson like my classmates. So I never felt like I was a person that belonged because of that. But one thing my dad said to me when I was 13 years old that shaped the rest of my life. He noticed how Black people suffered from Conformity. He told me (and excuse my language for this in advance) that if ONE Black person walks down the street with shit on their head, you will start to see MANY Black people walking down the street with shit on their heads. When he told me this, I started to take notice...how Black people wore their hair the same; dressed the same; talked with that foolish slang and basically consumed the same kinds of food. I thought to myself...WOW...I NEVER want to be that way...I will ALWAYS be my own person. So I gradually (and successfully) accepted my name as being unique. I NEVER wore clothes that were considered to be "in fashion". I NEVER talked with slang or jive or pig latin...lol. I learned that "soul food" is the SOLE purpose of putting you in the grave. I honestly and truly desire that our people will one day wake up and see what's really going on. But with the advancement of technology, the fight seems to be getting lost in the smoke. For the past couple of weeks I couldn't understand why my life was such a struggle now even though I am employed and yet while I was receiving plantation pay (LoL) everything "seem" to be intact. So now I have the Almighty answering my question through my brother Lance. I don't know if I told you this before Lance but I am very grateful to have someone like you in my life. (Smile).
